Garden Warbler

At the private wetlands I heard a Garden Warbler singing. While listening to it I heard it doing some mimicry of Chaffinch song. In the middle of it's warbling it did the last part of the Chaffinch song, the bit where it speeds up (sounding a little like the rattle of a Lesser-throat) and ends with the slower two notes. The Garden Warbler did this a couple of times while I was there. I will try and get down there next weekend with my recording gear and see if I can get a recording posted on this blog.

Popped in as I was passing & the Hail had just stopped.
Oystercatchers were quite friendly today.
I noticed one with a ring:

A few tasters for the coming dragonfly season

My PC has been straining with too many images and so it was time to clear out a few Gig. Checking through the dragonfly folders brought back a few great memories and so I hope you don't mind me sharing a few with you.
All the pictures posted were taken at disused Kettlewell Reservoir in St Ives.
Any id corrections would be appreciated.

Emerald Damselfly. I watched this pair 'walk' backwards down the stem until both were fully submerged where presumably egg laying took place - I daren't risk the camera.

For those trying to get pictures of the Mandarins at Strid Woods, try the caravan site next to the carpark.

I've been trying to get decent pics next to the river but without too much success.

However the birds commute to caravan park and will take food almost from your hand:

Though it does feel a bit like cheating!!!!!!!

Members Only Reserve 02-05-09

A bit of a cold wind in the morning - but it brightened up later.
Dave was at one end capturing flying Swallows, I was at the hide
area & my buddy showed up!

So I tried for a few, more interesting shots of it
busy "doing it's thing"











It Seemed to attract one of the Redshank so I got
a couple of shots in before it wandered off.






These 2 Canada's are swimming around
protecting their Goslings, that hatched this week.



There were alot of these around today.


There was only the expected birds today, but
I hope you enjoy the images anyway.

Sedge Warbler

Taken at the corner of Marley Playing Field this morning, showing frequently and singing continuously.

Hiya all! Today started quite nice then 30 minutes into the walk the heavens opened, but still worthwhile seeing the birds we went to find. Didn't take many pictures as the camera was hiding inside my coat for most of the walk. But really enjoyed it!

So here's some photo's from today.

Not the clearest of pictures but it's the best one of the Nuthatch. Still trying to get used to the manual focus which is fairly new to me and the light was abit dull today!






Also saw redstart today only for the second time but couldn't manage any pictures.
