Gold finches galore

Some of over 20 goldfinches visiting our feeders.

Injured Kestrel &Longtailed Tits.

The male kestrel was found injured but nothing serious So was released a few days later .

I wish I could say this was a local bird, sadly not.   I have just returned from a short break  in Norfolk where this bird was hunting in the field adjacent where we were staying.

 The shot was taken at dusk, the bird hard to detect with the naked eye in the poor light. With a 500mm lens  + 1.4 TC,  camera settings of   1/50th sec, aperture f5.6 iso 1600 I was amazed to get any kind of a presentable  image.

King Fisher & Chiff-Chaff.

The Chiff-chaff was taken at 8-30 this morning in heavy rain.the Kingfisher app: 1hr Later.

Migrant Hawker &  Red Darter

       One of what seem to me to be a limited number of Grouse on the moor this year. This one was at Whetstone Allotments yesterday.

Common darter & Willow warbler

A great morning at stockbridge 30 species including Cormorant, Kingfisher, Black cap Chiff chaff, Garden warbler G/S/ W-Pecker as well as getting some work done.

Spotted Flycatcher and Willow Warbler at Glovershaw this morning.

Dragon flies & sedge warbler

Saw these dragon flies but don,t know their identitys perhaps someone could help? The two shots of sedge were taken at stockbridge on 30-8-12 as a record most likley bird on passage.

Grass Snake

Knowing where to see these beautiful creatures & a little stealth enabled me to get these shots.

 

Sparrow hawk.

This young bird was present along with another the other flew of but this bird stayed for app: 15 mins.

Lesser redpoll.

This bird has visited our feeder for the last few days.

An enjoyable day at Blacktoft today with a BOG colleague, produced a couple of "firsts" for me. Waders on show included   Greenshank, Green Sandpiper and Snipe.  (see photos below).

  Other birds seen were Spotted Redshank, Ruff, Bearded Tit and Yellow Wagtail(4). Marsh  Harrier (1juv 1 ad)

The first for stockbridge N/R.

This nuthatch flew on to the feeder on 2-8-12 the very first since the reserve was established.

More lizards

Yesterday was such a scortcher I decided to look again for lizards before the weather alters, I saw 6 adults & the one juvenile' the first picture of the juvenile is what you see naturally the others are zoomed in.
