Leeshaw / St Ives 24-02-2009

A morning visit to Leeshaw, W Yorks found few photographable birds. Just a little too early in the year? This Grey Heron was hidden in the conduit for nearly an hour before it flew and the Cormorants on the far side of the water left > East shortly after my arrival.

Grey Heron.... flushed from conduit (c) 2009

Cormorants.... off and away (c) 2009

An afternoon visit to St Ives, Bingley, W Yorks brought fantastically close views of several species of common birds from the new hide erected in the woods. Sadly the light was poor but a high ISO still brought in the shots.... I tried to avoid the birds on the feeders!

Robin at the end of the lens! (c) 2009

Can anyone identify this bird?

I think it's a Meadow Pipit but I'm not certain. If anyone knows just post a comment please.

Cheers!

A few photos!

The one that didn't get away!! Saw this sparrow hawk out of the corner my eye, from my living room window, having a winter feast! Not something you see every day....

Thought the moon was looking good this evening, so I thought I'd take a shot! (07/02/09)

Cheers!

Hungry Blackbird

Seems ages since I had my camera out. Desperate for some decent weather to get out and about. Shot this hungry Blackbird through my lounge window. ( click on image) Seems to be less birds feeding in my garden than this time last year. Would that be a reflection on a poor breeding year?

Siskin

Male Siskin feeding on seed in my garden at Low Moor, a slight concern over the welfare of this fellow as it would close it's eyes and pant rapidly!

But thankfully it did fly off !

It's time to start listening for Lesserpeckers like this one last year on High Coach Rd. Frank Robers saw one last week with Long Tail Tits, on the river bank between Hirst Wood and Roberts Park.
This Song Thrush a daily visitor to my bird table for raisins.
Up to 11 Goosanders been feeding on Canal between Fernclife area and Park Rd, easy to photo being so close and used to people.
