Kingfisher last week

Hearing that a Kingfisher had been sighted at the local members reserve , I decided to get up early (very early) and get down there. I wish I could say that these shots were of that bird ,alas it did not show. Not to be defeated I went to Fairburn the following day, where I had noted a bird was showing well and got these pictures. Here are more dragonflies photographed yesterday. Male and female Broad-bodied Chasers, Common Goldenring and Four-spotted Chaser (shame about the damage/staining on the rear right wing).

Arctic Terns

Took a day out to visit the Farne Islands last week, never been before, fantastic spectacle and a really enjoyable day . For those who know the islands these images should bring back pleasant memories, for those who dont maybe it will whet the appetite. Stephen

I have been a bit frustrated with my attempts to photograph Wheatears close up during migration , so I decided to travel a little further afield to try and get some breeding birds. These photographs were taken near Skyerholme on Wednesday.

Dragonflies

All seen on Timble Ings today. The Southern Hawker is newly immerged and the Goldenring was observed in a cleared area away from running water. Four-spot chasers were abundant around the pools.

Young Redpoll ??

This bird appeared at my feeder this evening. Here is a not too good photo through my lounge window. Any body able to confirm its identity. I thought possible young Redpoll. Cheers Stephen
