Just record shots in poor light, digital equivalent of box browny and crap photographer. Unfortunately Brian Vickers was a few seconds too late with his Nikon.

Your first image confirms my thoughts of this being a male.
Yes, comparing in Collins it would appear to be a male.Through Nigels scope it looked very bright and no pale area on rimages.
